Workshop
After reclaiming part of a derelict stone barn near my house and months of mixing mortar and limewash, I now have my workshop; a bright and inspiring space to work. It is so nice to have space for my many materials and to be able to work in a more organised fashion. It is still reasonably basic, and theres certainly room for improvement but I've got what I need most to work, space!
I try to keep my workshop a dust free zone, so only paint and laminate in there. |
| My partner, Vince is a cabinet maker and I have machines in his workshop that I use; a fretsaw, sander, drill and polisher are all in there as it's quite a messy process. When it comes to assembling my jewellery, I have a table in our spare room where I can a) keep my findings warm and dry and b) keep myself warmer!
There are so many things that inspire me to be creative, living in such beautiful countryside being one of them. Nature is constantly inspiring; observing the way flowers and leaves are formed, the way light affects an object creating a sparkle on water or a raindrop on a petal. I am constantly aware of colours and their depths and densities; trying to capture their transluscent qualities in my use of colour is a big part of my work. |

Music also plays a large part in providing me with inspiration. I mainly listen to classical, although some of my son's musical preferences are faster and do make me work quicker! I can always remember the piece of music I was listening to when I painted a certain picture; strange but true!
I guess I would consider myself as being 99% creative and probably thought of as rather eccentric! However, I love what I do and am proud of the work I create. |
